Q) What is a download?
A) A download describes the process of copying data from one location to another across the Internet. In the case of music downloading, this means copying a digital music file from one place on the Internet (e.g. Urban Amplified) and placing it on another (e.g. your home computer).
Q) What are the system requirements for using Urban Amplified?
A) As long as your computer has a web browser that is capable of downloading files (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox are just a few), you will be able to download tracks purchased from Urban Amplified. To play them, you will require an mp3-compatible player on your system. Examples include iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp and the Quick Time player.
Q) Can I listen to the music before I decide to buy it?
A) You can hear a sample of almost every track on Urban Amplified. This will help you decide if you want to buy it or not. You'll find the tracklisting for each product over on the left-hand side of each product page. Simply click the track you want to hear and we'll play you a 30 second sample of the track. Some music may not have this feature as the length of the original tracks may be less than 30 seconds. Most will, however.
Q) Having trouble listening to samples?
A) We use a Flash-based music player in order to play samples quickly and efficiently. However you will need to have the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player installed on your system. You can download this - for free - from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer. If you are on a slow connection it may take a while before the audio is downloaded and buffered on your computer. If you do not see the player, you may need to delete your browser's 'temporary internet files' (also known as 'clearing the cache').
Q) How do I download music?
A) When you've paid for your tracks, you'll be taken to a page called 'Your Orders'. Simply click on the cover image of the product you've bought, and we'll display a list of the tracks you purchased. To download individual tracks, just click on the track name or, alternatively, you can download the whole lot as a zip file by clicking on the 'Get All' button. You will then be prompted to 'Open' or 'Save' your file(s). You must click 'Save' and choose somewhere on your computer's hard-drive to store the file. We recommend somewhere that you can easily find the files such as:
On Windows, the 'My Music' folder in the 'My Documents' folder. Both of which can be accessed from the start menu.
On Mac OSX, you will most probably not be asked and it will download straight to the desktop (if this is the default download location). You can then move them to the 'Music' folder on your Macintosh hard-drive.
If you have saved the zip file to your computer, you will need to extract the contents before you can listen to the tracks or move them to your music player. In Windows, simply open the zip file and click on 'Extract All Files' in the top left corner. Opening the zip file on Mac OSX will do this automatically for you.
Q) How do I download videos?
A) At the moment videos are not available for download. However, you can watch them over again - as many times as you like - on our website.
Q) Why can't I see the videos?
A) We use a Flash-based music player in order to play samples quickly and efficiently. However you will need to have the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player installed on your system. You can download this - for free - from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer. If you are on a slow connection it may take a while before the audio is downloaded and buffered on your computer. If you do not see the player, you may need to delete your browser's 'temporary internet files' (also known as 'clearing the cache').
Q) What quality are the downloads?
A) All our downloads are high quality, DRM-free mp3 files, supplied at a minimum 192kbps.
Q) What is DRM?
A) 'Digital Rights Management’ is essentially software that some of the major record labels use to make sure people don't make endless digital copies of their music. In other words, if you buy a WMA, you are allowed to make copies of it but only a specific number of times. Unfortunately this limits the way in which you can use the music you buy and so, although we support efforts to reduce piracy, it is clear that you should be able to decide what you play your download on. Customers who buy tracks from this service can make personal CD copies of all tracks purchased and also transfer to their portable music players.
Q) What portable players will these downloads work with?
A) Because we sell all our downloads in universal mp3 format, anything you download on Urban Amplified will work just fine on any player - from iPod to Archos, from Sony to Creative.
Q) How do I put my music into iTunes and Windows Media Player?
A) Simply open iTunes or Windows Media Player on your computer and drag the tracks you've bought into the application. They'll automatically be added to your library.
Q) What happens if I accidentally delete or lose a downloaded track?
A) As the music we supply is in a digital format that can be stored on your computer or digital music player, the file can be deleted, lost or corrupted (damaged). You should be careful not to accidentally lose or damage your music files as when downloaded they are your responsibility. If it is our fault, contact us at amplified@urbanout.com and we will endeavour to resend the track.
Q) Can I return a downloaded file after I have purchased it?
A) As indicated in our Terms & Conditions, music downloads are not returnable once they have been purchased and refunds cannot be offered.
Q) Can I select multiple tracks from different albums?
A) Yes. Simply click on the 'Buy' button next to any track that you want to order. Each time you click this button the track is then added to your shopping basket. When you are ready you can click 'Checkout' to edit your shopping list. You can buy any album in the same way by simply clicking the 'Buy Album' button next to the album you want.
Q) Is downloading music legal?
A) As long as all of the copyright holders of a particular piece of music have given permission for it to be downloaded and stored in digital format, downloading is perfectly legal. All music sold on Urban Amplified is 100% legal and has been licensed by the relevant rights holders for downloading via this site.
Q) Can I move or copy my purchased tracks to another computer?
A) It is illegal to move or copy your music files onto another computer or device that belongs to someone else, as this constitutes illegal file-sharing and breaks copyright law. However, copying or moving files that you have downloaded from Urban Amplified onto other computers and devices (mp3 players or mobile phones, for example) that you own is considered fair use and is allowed.
Q) Do I own the tracks like I would a physical CD?
A) After paying for and downloading the music file, the track is yours to keep for personal use only. However, the same copyright laws will apply exactly as if it were a physical compact disc you purchased from a high street store. You can of course copy any download from Urban Amplified on to a CD for personal use.
